Virtual Music Lessons: The New Norm
“I advise you to say your dream is possible and then overcome all inconveniences, ignore all the hassles and take a running leap through the hoop, even if it is in flames.” - Les Brown
We can all say that this global pandemic has changed our lives. You are learning to adapt to a new world despite increasing tensions and the uncertainty of the future. In times like these, it is easy to shut down. Keeping the blinds closed and ignoring the outside world can be beneficial at times. However, you shouldn’t allow adversity to stop you from pursuing your dreams. You MUST adapt and overcome.
As an introvert, I find myself towing the line of taking precautions due to the ubiquitous health concerns and giving in to my “Gollum side” that wants to hole up in my room and keep all my time for myself. COVID-19 is just another obstacle that you can overcome in many situations. For the time-being, this is our reality. If we wish to accomplish anything and not squander these remaining months of 2020, we must change our attitudes and attack our dreams leaving no room for excuses.
Virtual Music Lessons: Enter stage right
Now, let’s talk music. You want to learn to play the piano, guitar, uke, etc. Learning to play an instrument has been a life-long dream of yours. Yet, you’ve always had an excuse as to why the present was not a good time to begin. Then enters COVID-19. It’s easy to dismiss music lessons once again on the grounds of not jeopardizing your health. Spoiler alert: virtual music lessons are available, and they work!
When the pandemic hit, I was perhaps one of the strongest critics of online music learning. After all, there is lag time, and it’s easy to talk over each other which just makes for an awkward interaction. You can brainstorm quite the list of why virtual music lessons are not effective or efficient but, in the end, that list is just another string of excuses.
Despite my doubts, I decided to learn the guitar at the beginning of the quarantine from a fellow instructor, Brian Weaver. I don’t regret it for a second. Diving into virtual lessons with Brian was much less hassle than I anticipated. Before long, that list of excuses disappeared. I’m going on 5 months taking virtual guitar lessons, and I’m continuing to bite off more than I can chew and enjoy every second of it.
Now is the time
If you’re waiting for the right moment to start learning an instrument, stop waiting. The moment is now. Don’t let COVID-19 be another obstacle that stops you from pursuing your dreams. In the end, it is a minor and, hopefully temporary, inconvenience that is totally worth it if your dream is to create some music. Try a free lesson on us and see how it goes!
